Canada's Historical Sites &
Archaeological Heritage in Danger

“Archaeological heritage is an essential element in the affirmation of our Canadian identity and a source of inspiration and knowledge. It is the policy of the government of Canada to protect and manage this heritage.”
— Department of Canadian Heritage, 1990

The federal government has cut Parks Canada’s programs by $29 million dollars annually. This has meant the loss of 638 jobs and will compromise Canada’s ability to maintain and protect its cultural heritage.

Cuts to Parks Canada

The cuts to Parks Canada affect facilities across the country & threaten the archaeological heritage of the entire nation.

Impact of
the Cuts

The cuts make it more difficult for Canadians to visit, understand, protect & research many of the historic sites in Canada.

Silencing
Dissent

Parks Canada employees have been muzzled from speaking out against the threats to Canada's heritage.
